Composable makes it possible: A breathing organizational concept for a volatile business world

What does a company need in terms of IT? Usually, the answer was ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning. The software scores above all with its promise of integration. However, in order to master the risk of change in an increasingly fast-moving business world, support for a new, entrepreneurial way of thinking is called for. The black box has done its duty. It must become transparent - to stay with the metaphor - in order to give the inherent process structures flexibility and the ability to change.

The new guiding principle for companies is called "composable". In other words: Flexibility is added to efficiency. This idea must also be reflected in enterprise architectures and processes. They must offer the scope to be able to flexibly take up and implement new process considerations or requirements in the context of external events. The guidelines for designing the building blocks of an application landscape are therefore modularity, autonomy, orchestration and discovery.

In short, the future of ERP is called composable ERP.

More precisely: process-driven, composable ERP, as exemplified by SAP with S/4HANA and the Business Technology Platform (BTP). Consistent semantics and a uniform data model - basically the basis of ERP integration strength - are promoted across the breadth of all (application) solutions and building blocks, regardless of where, how and by whom they are provided.

Based on the overall process and value chain, many an ERP system will in future be responsible for a smaller process section than before, so that in return a company gains in adaptability and flexibility.

With such a strategy, CIOs will create - and more than that - significantly shape the required business transformation to a more powerful, more adaptable enterprise organization.

The result is a breathing organizational concept with a modular basic structure that creates the freedom to reorganize and realign processes at any time depending on internal and external conditions.
